What is fasting?

Edited

Simply put, intermittent fasting is time-restricted eating: when you eat during specific periods of the day with time intervals. The most popular type of fasting is daily time-restricted fasting. This means that you eat normally within an 8-hour window each day.

Here are some benefits of fasting put together by our fitness experts:

  • It is efficient at achieving overall weight loss and maintenance of muscular weight.

  • When fasting, a person reduces their daily calorie intake, and their body starts burning its stores of visceral and subcutaneous fat. This type of fat is usually abundant, so burning it contributes to more effective weight loss or an increase in net body weight.

  • Research shows that intermittent fasting can help reduce inflammation in the body, which helps fight many chronic diseases.

  • Fasting can be good, but it’s not for everyone! If you have kidney stones, stomach problems, diabetes, or other chronic diseases, consult your doctor before fasting.

  • Intermittent fasting helps regulate blood sugar levels, improves metabolism, and prevents insulin resistance.
